The long awaited Mac OS X Lion has finally been released today by Apple. For the low price of $29.99 you can own your own copy of Apple’s new operating system Mac OS X Lion. You don’t even need to head to store to purchase it, you can download it from the Mac App Store or get it by clicking here.
This is the first time Apple has ever released an operating system not on a physical disk, this was a concern for some people due to the fact that without a disk you are not able to do a clean install of the OS on your Mac. But work arounds on how to burn the OS onto a disk have been posted online, for instructions to do so click here. By next month in August you will be able to purchase Mac OS X Lion on a USB thumb drive which will be priced at $69.
Below are some of the new features included with Mac OS X Lion:
Multi-Touch Gestures
Use the multi-touch gestures to dynamically and efficiently scroll, zoom, browse through Safari, photos and other files (no more back or forward buttons, just swipe)
Full screen applications
Safari, Garage Band, iPhoto, and all standard Apple apps to be full screen
Mission control
A unified view of Expose, Spaces and widgets that can be accessed by a three-finger swipe
Launchpad
Have all your newly purchased or downloaded apps neatly organized in the desktop at the tip of your fingers at a pinch’s gesture
Resume
Go back to where you were when you quit an application, document or just about anything or go back where you were even after you restart your system. Not grandiose but time-saving, definitely.
Autosave for documents
You can “revert to the last opened file” or “lock” it so that it won’t be changed. One click on “duplicate” and you’re there. Nice.
Versions
Autosave won’t save over the previously saved file, but will create versions of it so that you may browse through previous drafts. The best part, all is automatic.
Mail
Better view-ability, better applicability, better search capabilities (multi-faceted searches according to person, subject or period), and the ability for full screen mode.
If you have downloaded Apple’s new operating system Mac OS X Lion, what are your initial thoughts of it? Feel free to comment below on what you think of the OS.
